Origin story, short version
Small Shop. Loud Findings.
The companies that most need a proper break-in test usually get the thinnest one. We started Halcyon to fix that.
Here’s the pattern we kept seeing. A 40-person fintech, an architecture studio sitting on client blueprints, a clinic with a patient portal — each one gets a customer security questionnaire, panics, and buys whatever “pen test” shows up first. Sometimes that’s a junior with a scanner and a 90-page PDF. Sometimes it’s a questionnaire about the questionnaire.
So we kept the firm deliberately small. The tester who writes your rules of engagement is on the keyboard during the break-in and on the call when the findings land. No relay race, no account manager translating “SQL injection” into “a small concern.”
We work from an office on East 86th, a short walk from the Q, Monday to Friday 9:30 to 4:30 — later when a scope letter says the testing window runs overnight. Most of the actual work happens over VPN and video, so your office doesn’t need to be anywhere near ours.
And the name? The Greeks had a myth about the kingfisher — the halcyon — getting a stretch of flat, windless sea every winter to nest. We take on the noisy part: the poking, the phishing emails your team will roll their eyes at, the “we found something” call. The rest of your calendar gets to be calm. Calm is the deliverable.
